Detailed Program (8 )
1
Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Ba Be (L,D)
Meet the team then depart for Ba Be.
Ba Be National Park is a peaceful oasis surrounded by lush greenery.
After a 240 km journey from Hanoi along roads lined with tea plantations and traditional stilt houses, we arrive in the Tay (or Tho) region.
The area is particularly attractive for its picturesque lake, waterfalls, rivers, valleys and caves spread across approximately 500 hectares.
Dinner and overnight at a local homestay.
2
Ba Be Lake (B,L,D)
Breakfast then begin exploring this vast national reserve, home to more than 417 plant species, 299 species of mammals and 11 species of birds.
Take a boat cruise across the lake to the Dau Dang Waterfalls. On the return journey, the boat enters the impressive Puong Cave, home to thousands of bats whose distinctive calls echo through the cavern.
Lunch is prepared by the lake in a small traditional Tay shelter.
Ba Be is also home to H’mong and Red Dao communities. In the afternoon, we visit their villages and homes. These ethnic groups have preserved a largely self-sufficient lifestyle and many of their ancestral traditions.
Overnight with a Tay family in their traditional stilt house.
3
Ba Be - Cao Bang / Pac Bo (B,L)
After breakfast with the Tay family, depart for Cao Bang.
The beautiful road takes us towards Gio Pass (“Wind Pass”). A stop at the summit offers breathtaking panoramic views.
Along the way, we encounter Tho (Tay) and Yao Tien (Silver Dao) communities. Women often walk to the local markets and warmly greet travelers.
Arrival in Cao Bang around noon.
After lunch, continue towards Pac Bo, a mountainous border region near China characterized by dramatic karst peaks and lush vegetation. This area was Ho Chi Minh’s first refuge in 1941 after 30 years abroad and later became one of the first Viet Minh military bases during the Indochina War.
Dinner at your own expense and overnight at a hotel in Cao Bang.
4
Cao Bang / Ban Gioc Waterfall (B,L)
Breakfast.
Meet at 8:00 a.m. and depart for an excursion to one of Vietnam’s most beautiful waterfalls, Ban Gioc.
To reach it, we cross the spectacular Ma Phuc Pass (“Kneeling Horse Pass”), whose dramatic landscapes leave a lasting impression of northeastern Vietnam.
In the middle of the water stands a limestone outcrop covered with trees, dividing the current into three streams and creating a magnificent natural setting while pleasantly cooling the surrounding air.
Visit Ban Gioc Waterfall.
Explore the surrounding area, including the mountain with a natural hole through it.
Visit ethnic villages along the way, including Phuc Sen, known for traditional forging, and Phia Thap, famous for handmade incense sticks.
Visit Truc Lam Pagoda.
At the foot of Ban Gioc Waterfall flows a broad stream, clear and reflective like a mirror.
China lies on the opposite side of the waterfall.
Dinner at your own expense and overnight at Saigon Ban Gioc Hotel 4*.
5
Ban Gioc - Dong Khe – That Khe – Lang Son (B,L)
Breakfast then depart to explore the surrounding area, including the ethnic village of Khuoi Ky, known for its traditional stone houses, and Nguom Ngao Cave.
Continue along RC4 (Colonial Road No. 4) towards That Khe and Dong Khe, areas historically known for French and Viet Minh military bases.
Pass through the Dong Khe basin, surrounded by karst peaks. Dong Khe and That Khe are frequently mentioned in accounts of the Indochina War as some of its bloodiest battlefields.
In the late afternoon, arrive in Lang Son.
Dinner at your own expense and overnight at a hotel in Lang Son.
6
Lang Son - Hanoi (B,L)
